The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a man identified as Innocent Chukwuma in Oyigbo, Port Harcourt, for allegedly using his social media account to call for a military overthrow of the Nigerian government.
The suspect, operating on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) with the handle “@TheAgroman,” reportedly made a series of posts advocating for a coup d’état to unseat the current administration.
According to reports, Chukwuma’s posts explicitly urged the Nigerian military to intervene and suspend the government. In one of the inflammatory posts, he allegedly wrote: “A coup in Nigeria is needed. Dispose of APC, suspend the Nigerian Government, and join the AES. That is all we need now.”
He continued his call for insurrection, attempting to rally public support for the unconstitutional action. “It will happen eventually. Nigerians, the military needs your support now! Only them can save this country,” the post read.
Chukwuma also accused the current government of compromising the nation’s sovereignty, stating, “The bastard in Aso Rock has basically sold this country to the West, and they run our intelligence apparatus. Only the military can reset this country. Support them.”
Following an intelligence operation, DSS operatives tracked the suspect to his location in the Oyigbo area of Port Harcourt where he was apprehended. An unnamed source close to the investigation has disclosed that Chukwuma is currently in DSS custody and is cooperating with investigators.
This arrest underscores the seriousness with which Nigerian authorities are treating public incitement and calls for the subversion of the country’s democratic order, particularly in a period of political instability across the West African sub-region.
